Week 4- Newsletter- 2 hours
For your field
experience this week, interview the classroom teacher and get a copy of your teacher
or school's newsletter to share with the class. In your journal, post the
answers to the interview questions, listed below, along with a digital version
or link to the newsletter.
Interview Questions:
1.
What information do
you communicate in the newsletter?
We communicate what the upcoming week has in store for students.
What they will be learning, important dates, and reminders. We also remind
parents of what the character word of the month is, the saying, and the
literature story. We include important dates, and any other reminders that need
to be given.
2.
How often do you
publish your newsletter?
The newsletter is published every Friday. Because we create
these digitally for the whole grade level, we rotate who is in charge of the
newsletter. Teachers can email each other if there is something they think
needs to be included, but we do use the same format each week, which makes
creating the newsletter much faster and easier. We also use the main calendar
found on the schools website, to include all important dates.
3.
Is your newsletter
published digitally? Why or why not?
Our newsletter is published digitally each week. The schools
website is updated each Friday with the newsletters, and then an email blast is
sent out to all parents with the links for the new newsletters. I also send a
weekly email to parents, and include the newsletter in that email.
4.
How do you ensure that
all students and parents receive the newsletter?
At the beginning of the year I had parents fill out a questionnaire.
One of the questions was if they had access to a computer or other digital
device. Those who do not, get a paper copy of the newsletter sent home each
Friday.
5.
Why is it important
for teachers to have classroom newsletters?
I think it is a great way to keep parents informed of what is
going on. It provides them a place to see important dates, upcoming assignments
or tests, and what the students are learning. I also use it as a way to keep
track of what is going on in my classroom, and making sure I have prepared for
everything that is coming up.
